“Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.”- Albert Einstein
Some of my favorite classes in high school were comparative religions and philosophy. Although it seems I’ve forgotten a good deal of the information I’ve obtained, the drive behind learning it is still there. I have never been one to take information and hold it as truth without working it out for myself, and I’m truly fascinated in what makes people tick, why they think and live the way they do, I want to understand them the best that I can, to be able to carry on an intelligent conversation with another person regardless of whether or not we share the same views. I have heard people argue against faith in favor of logic and science, I have also heard people lean entirely on faith without anything tangible to back it up. However, I tend to disagree with both sides, for both are missing an integral part, the holistic approach appeals to me. We have intellect, emotion, instinct, tangible proof and the intangible, we are composed of more than just logic and reason or pure intuitive feelings. Einstein seems to have hit the nail on the head. If we go about life only believing what we can physically feel and touch, what we can mathematically prove and recreate and formulate, we miss a big part of the picture. Simultaneously, if we run around only acting and reacting on our feelings, we are lacking a significant piece of the puzzle. Both sides adhering strictly to what is natural to them, are proceeding with an insufficient set of tools, their perspective is impaired. All this to say, I don’t believe that we were given logic, and emotion to encounter a religion, faith, etc. that requires that we abandon one for the other. Science does not disprove religion, and religion does not ask us to ignore science. They can hold hands. (;
